Research, Monitoring & Data

Sound science is at the heart of SEA’s work. Our research and monitoring programs provide the data needed to understand watershed health, identify emerging environmental concerns, and guide effective restoration and conservation efforts across southeastern Prince Edward Island.

SEA conducts a wide range of field assessments, including electrofishing surveys to monitor fish populations and aquatic biodiversity, erosion pin monitoring to measure streambank stability and erosion rates, Rapid Geomorphic Assessments (RGAs) to evaluate stream condition and channel health, and riparian assessments to examine the quality of streamside vegetation and habitat. We also monitor water quality, aquatic invertebrates, wetlands, wildlife, and other key environmental indicators throughout our watershed region.

By collecting long-term scientific data, SEA can track environmental changes over time, measure the success of restoration projects, support evidence-based decision-making, and help protect the health of our watersheds for future generations.
